My Favorite Game

Mise En Place [~2-3 Minutes]
Every day you should:
- Login to DCPS OneView.
- Read your DCPS e-mail.
- Follow any additional instructions from the teacher.
Instruction [~5-10 Minutes]
Students will discuss the My Favorite Game Presentation.
Work [~12-25 Minutes]
Students will discuss and begin working on their Post-Secondary Career Academy Plan. Please refer to this Student Example Plan when working on your plan today.
Students will begin the My Favorite Game Presentation.
Future Nine Weeks Assignments
The assignments listed here are assignments that are due later in the year.
- Students are always free to work ahead and submit them.
- For projects that require a file upload, you will need to change the Nine Weeks in the top right corner of Focus.
- If you are working on a future assignment and get stuck, you must wait until I can help students with current projects first.
Installing Python
The next thing students will need to do is install the Python software so you can start writing and executing code. Please follow along with the instructions in the video below. If you are using a Chromebook, you may need to search the Microsoft Store or your App Store for Python software. If it is not available, you MUST get access to a regular computer to install this sofware.
Once you have Python installed, please make sure to Create Your GitHub Account and Submit the First Assignemnt.
Break Down [~5 Minutes]
Before you leave please do the following::
- BACKUP your data in at least two locations.
- RESTART the computer.
- TURN OFF the monitor.
- COLLECT your materials.
- WAIT quietly to be dismissed.
- PUSH in your chair when you leave.
- THROW away any trash in the trashcan as you leave.
Homework
Finish any class work not completed during the period.

[Assignment] My Favorite Game PowerPoint Presentation
Background Info.
Games are one of the most popular leisure and recreational activities for people of all ages and cultures. In addition to traditional professional sports, playing games are also providing professional opportuntities to make a living. Games are available in a wide variety of types: board games, card games, and video games for example. There are games that require skill, luck, or trivia knowledge as well.
Student Product
For this assignment, students will develop and deliver a short PowerPoint presentation related to their favorite game. Students will present either face-to-face or through Teams. Student presentations should be approximately 60 seconds in length.
Content Rubric
- Title slide contains: Student Name, Class Period, and Favorite Game [2 Points]
- Second slide describes the basic premise / idea behind the game. [2 Points]
- Third slide explains the type of the game (e.g. chance, skill, trivia, puzzle, etc.) AND the genre of the game (e.g. action, adventure, FPS, RPG, etc.) [2 Points]
- Fourth slide explains and describes why this game is your favorite. [2 Points]
- Presentation utilizes a DESIGN THEME to improve its visual appearance. [2 Points]
- Presentation utilizes SLIDE TRANSITIONS for each slide. [2 Points]
- Presentation includes at least one relevant picture or image on each slide. [5 Points]
- Presentation includes at least one animation that DOES NOT DISTRACT from the visual appearance on each slide (e.g. do not make a picture fly around like a tornado for no reason). [5 Points]
- Text is presented in BULLET / NUMBERED LIST form (don't write paragraphs of text). [5 Points]
Process Rubric
- File name is lastname_firstname_favorite_game [5 Points]
- File format is PowerPoint (.ppt) or OpenDocument Presentation (.odp) [5 Points]
- Project is submitted to Focus by Wednesday, September 16, at 11:59PM [20 Points]
