Setting Up OneDrive / Using GitHub / Hello, World!

Mise En Place [~2-3 Minutes]
Every day you should:
- Login to DCPS OneView.
- Read your DCPS e-mail.
- Follow any additional instructions from the teacher.
Instruction [~5-10 Minutes]
Creating GitHub Account
Students need to create a GitHub account. Follow the instructions in the video below to do so. Once you have created your account AND verified your e-mail address, post your GitHub username in the Teams meeting chat. Once you have received the invite, you can open the AJHS GitHub Team page to accept the invite.
Installing Python
The next thing students will need to do is install the Python software so you can start writing and executing code. Please follow along with the instructions in the video below. If you are using a Chromebook, you may need to search the Microsoft Store or your App Store for Python software. If it is not available, you MUST get access to a regular computer to install this sofware.
Installing Software for DCPS Computers
The following video is ONLY FOR STUDENTS USING A DCPS COMPUTER. If you are not using a DCPS computer, you will need to follow separate directions as posted in Teams.
Installing Software for Personal Computers
If you are USING YOUR OWN COMPUTER WITH WINDOWS or macOS you will need to use this video to install GitHub Desktop.
Work [~12-25 Minutes]
Students will need to complete and submit the first GitHub submit today.
Future Nine Weeks Assignments
The assignments listed here are assignments that are due later in the year.
- Students are always free to work ahead and submit them.
- For projects that require a file upload, you will need to change the Nine Weeks in the top right corner of Focus.
- If you are working on a future assignment and get stuck, you must wait until I can help students with current projects first.
Break Down [~5 Minutes]
Before you leave please do the following::
- BACKUP your data in at least two locations.
- RESTART the computer.
- TURN OFF the monitor.
- COLLECT your materials.
- WAIT quietly to be dismissed.
- PUSH in your chair when you leave.
- THROW away any trash in the trashcan as you leave.
Homework
Finish any class work not completed during the period.
Read for fun, at least 20 minutes.
