[Assignment] [3D Modeling] Primitive Blender Animation

Background

3D modeling is another important aspect of game design. Maps and characters are often built using 3D modeling software. Many popular animated movies are also created using 3D modeling software. There are many versions of 3D modeling software available. The software we will use in class is called Blender. It is available to download as open source software.

Blender provides many important functions including but not limited to:

  1. Modeling
  2. Rigging
  3. Animating
  4. Texturing
  5. Video Editing

Content Rubric

  1. Contains at least three PRIMITIVE objects. [5 Points Each, 15 Total]
  2. Each primitive has texture, material, or paint applied. [5 Points Each, 15 Total]
  3. Scene has at least one SKY modifier under the WORLD attribute. [5 Points]
  4. All three objects in the scene are animated. Key frames should be added every 10-15 frames for EACH object. [50 Points]

[Rubric] [Sound Design] Sound Effects with Audacity

Background

Sound and music are both important aspects of game design. It can add excitement and tension to games through "boss music" or fast paced sound effects. It can add drama during important parts of the game story. It can also be soothing and relaxing. Good game designers think about the sounds and music they use in their games.

Product

Students will create a selection of sound effects to use in a potential game. They will use the software program Audacity to edit them.

Content Rubric

Students will need to create seven unique sound effects for a game. Examples include:

  1. Sound effect for collecting a power-up, upgrade, or special item.
  2. Sound effect for a ranged / projectile attack.
  3. Sound effcet for a melee (close combat) attack.
  4. Sound effect for when the player is damaged.
  5. Sound effect for when the player is healed.
  6. Sound effect when a player scores a point.
  7. Sound effect when a player moves, walks, or runs.
  8. Sound effect for an enemy attack.
  9. Sound effect for an enemy taking damage.
  10. Sound effect for a player dying.
  11. Sound effect for an enemy dying.
Each sound effect is worth 10 points. Total Points for Content Rubric: 70

Process Rubric

[Digital Art] [Enrichment] Photoshop Battle #00: Athletes with Instruments

The image above was the inspiration for this project idea. It is a funny picture that also requires significant photo editing skills. For this project you need to:

  • Find a picture of at least one athlete competing in a game or match. Save it to your computer and / or USB drive.
  • Find a picture of one or more musical instruments. Save those pictures to your computer and / or USB drive.
  • Use Paint.net or GNU Image Manipulation Project Portable to create an image showing the athletes playing the instruments.
    • In-class examples will use Paint.net for demonstration purposes.

Content Rubric

  • FIRST NAME and LAST INITIAL only in BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER. [5 Points]
  • Must show at least one athlete playing instrument in a match / game. [2.5 Points]
    • Must show athlete holding/playing/actually touching the instrument!
